The efficiency of a cone crusher relies entirely on its transmission. As specialized crusher part suppliers, we manufacture Spiral Bevel Gear Sets that rival the OEM in precision and durability. Our gears are engineered for the Metso HP/GP, Sandvik CH, and Symons series, designed to handle the extreme torque required to crush hard granite and iron ore.

Core Advantages: Gleason Profiling & Metallurgy

Standard gears often fail due to poor contact patterns or surface fatigue. Our Spare parts manufacturing process addresses these critical failure points:

  • Forged 17CrNiMo6 Steel: We use heavy-duty Carburizing Steel. Unlike 42CrMo (which is only surface hardened), 17CrNiMo6 allows for a deep carbon-rich case. This results in a tooth surface that is diamond-hard (60 HRC) to resist pitting, while the core remains tough (30-35 HRC) to absorb shock loads without snapping.
  • Gleason Spiral Technology: Using 5-axis CNC Gear Generators, we cut teeth with the Gleason profile. This curved tooth design increases the “Contact Ratio” to >2.0, meaning at least two teeth are always meshing. This reduces vibration and lowers noise levels by 30% compared to straight bevel gears.
  • Precision Lapping: After grinding, every Gear and Pinion set is “Lapped” (mated and run together) in the factory. This ensures a perfect contact patch before the parts even reach your site, eliminating the break-in risk.

Performance Comparison: Carburized vs. Nitrided

For heavy duty Crusher spares, the heat treatment method defines the service life:

Field Diagnosis: Analyzing Gear Wear

Premature gear failure is costly. Inspect your Wear parts during maintenance intervals:

  • Grey Pitting (Micropitting): If the tooth surface looks frosted or grey, the oil film thickness is insufficient. Switch to a higher viscosity gear oil (ISO VG 220 or 320).
  • Toe or Heel Loading: If the wear mark is concentrated at the extreme inner or outer edge of the tooth, the Backlash is incorrect, or the shafts are misaligned. This will snap the tooth corner.
  • Scuffing/Scoring: Vertical scratches indicate metal-to-metal contact due to overheating or lack of EP (Extreme Pressure) additives in the oil.

Expert Tip: Installation & Backlash Adjustment

The “Blueing” Test is Mandatory: You cannot simply bolt in a new gear set.

Procedure: Apply Prussian Blue marking compound to the pinion teeth. Rotate the crusher by hand.

Goal: The contact pattern should be slightly towards the “Toe” (inner diameter) under no load. Under load, it will shift to the center.

Adjustment: You must adjust the shims (gaskets) under the Pinion Shaft Housing to achieve the correct Backlash (typically 0.4mm – 0.8mm, depending on the model). Too little backlash will burn the gear; too much will break the teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Do I need to replace the Pinion and Ring Gear together?
A1: Yes, always. Spiral bevel gears are manufactured as a “Matched Pair.” They are lapped together at the factory. Mixing a new Ring Gear with an old Pinion will result in poor contact, high noise, and rapid failure within weeks.

Q2: Can I use 42CrMo steel instead of 17CrNiMo6 to save cost?
A2: For small, low-load crushers, 42CrMo is acceptable. However, for HP300/HP500 or Symons 7Ft machines, 42CrMo lacks the surface hardness to withstand the extreme contact pressure. We strongly recommend 17CrNiMo6 for high-performance applications.

Q3: How do I measure the Backlash?
A3: Use a dial indicator (magnetic base) on the outer diameter of a gear tooth. Rock the pinion shaft back and forth while holding the gear stationary. The total movement reads as the backlash. Consult your machine manual for the specific tolerance range.
