The Mainshaft (442.7100-01) is the central pillar of the Sandvik CH440 Hydrocone crusher.
Unlike fixed-shaft designs, this component moves vertically to adjust the crusher setting (CSS).
As specialized crusher part suppliers, we manufacture this shaft using heavy-duty forged steel to withstand the immense hydraulic thrust and bending moments generated during the crushing of hard granite and basalt.

Core Advantages: Forging Technology

Structural integrity is non-negotiable for the Mainshaft.
Our manufacturing process ensures our Spare parts exceed standard aftermarket limitations:

  • Open Die Forging: We utilize 42CrMo4 Alloy Steel processed via Open Die Forging with a reduction ratio of >3.5:1.
This creates a continuous grain flow along the length of the shaft, increasing fatigue resistance by 40% compared to machined rolled bars.
  • Precision Ground Journals: The contact areas for the Spider Bushing (top) and the Eccentric Bushing (bottom) are CNC ground to Ra 0.8.
This ultra-smooth finish minimizes friction and ensures the oil film is maintained, preventing premature bushing failure.
  • Thread Integrity: The threads for the Head Nut are precision-cut with stress-relief roots.
This prevents the common “thread stripping” issue that occurs when the mantle is tightened under high torque.

Performance Comparison: Material Matters

Using a substandard Mainshaft puts your entire Crusher spares investment at risk.

Field Diagnosis: When to Replace the Mainshaft?

A Mainshaft is expensive, but a failure is catastrophic.
Inspect your 442.7100-01 shaft during major overhauls:

  • Taper Fretting: Inspect the tapered cone where the Head Center sits.
If you see deep pitting, rust powder, or a “step” worn into the taper, the Head Center has been loose.
If wear exceeds 0.2mm, the shaft must be repaired or replaced to ensure the new Cone Crusher Liner stays tight.
  • Spider Bushing Area Wear: Check the very top of the shaft.
If it is scored or grooved, it will destroy the Spider Bushing, leading to loss of alignment.
  • Total Indicated Run-out (TIR): Place the shaft on V-blocks.
If the run-out exceeds 0.10mm, the shaft is bent (likely from a tramp iron event).
A bent shaft will destroy the Eccentric Bushing in days.

Expert Tip: Installation & Protection

The “Hydroset” Critical Check: The bottom of the CH440 Mainshaft rests on the Step Washer components inside the hydraulic cylinder.
When installing a new 442.7100-01 shaft, you must inspect or replace the Step Washers.
If the washers are worn unevenly, the new shaft will tilt, causing edge-loading on the eccentric bushing and rapid overheating.
Always lubricate the shaft threads with Molybdenum Disulfide paste to ensure the Head Nut can be removed in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Does this shaft come with the Head Center installed?
A1: No, the Mainshaft (442.7100-01) is sold as a standalone component.
The Head Center is a separate part that is interference-fitted onto the shaft.
We can perform this assembly in our factory if requested to save you site labor.

Q2: Is this shaft compatible with the older S4800 model?
A2: In many cases, yes.
The Sandvik CH440 is based on the S4800 design.
However, there are different “Throw” configurations.
Please confirm your crusher’s serial number with our engineering team to ensure the oil hole positions match your specific model.

Q3: Why is Forging better than Casting for this part?
A3: Casting can have internal porosity (air bubbles).
For a Mainshaft that holds up the entire crushing force, a single air bubble can lead to a snap failure.
Forging compresses the metal, eliminating voids and ensuring 100% structural density.
