Sandvik CH430 Spider Bushing: 442.6473-01 Replacement

The Spider Bushing (P/N: 442.6473-01, formerly 452.6866-001) acts as the upper pivot point for the Main Shaft in the Sandvik CH430 cone crusher. Located in the hub of the top shell spider, it endures constant oscillating loads as the shaft gyrates. Unlike the lower eccentric bushing which rotates, this bushing accommodates the fulcrum motion. Precision fitment and superior material quality are essential to prevent “keyholing” of the spider hub, which is a major repair.

We manufacture this component using ASTM B505 C93700 High-Leaded Tin Bronze via Centrifugal Casting. This manufacturing method eliminates the porosity risks associated with sand casting, ensuring a dense sliding surface that can withstand the high Hertzian contact stresses at the pivot point.

Metallurgy: Why Not Standard Bronze?

The spider bushing application is unique: high load, low speed, and oscillating motion. We use C93700 because:

  • Anti-Fretting: The oscillation can cause fretting corrosion. The 10% lead content in C93700 provides a self-lubricating film that minimizes stick-slip friction, even when grease supply is intermittent.
  • Shock Absorption: The softer bronze matrix (65-80 HBW) absorbs shock loads from large feed rocks, protecting the rigid steel spider casting from cracking.

Field Diagnosis: When to Replace

Spider bushing wear is often overlooked until it causes major damage. Monitor these signs:

1. “Egg-Shaping” (Ovality)
During maintenance, measure the ID at 0° and 90°. If the bore is oval by more than 0.5mm, the fulcrum point has shifted. This changes the crushing geometry (CSS) and causes the main shaft to run at an incorrect angle, damaging the bottom step washer.

2. Grease Contamination
If the grease purging from the spider seal contains brass glitter, the bushing is grinding. If it contains silica dust, the Spider Seal Ring has failed, and the bushing is being eaten by rock dust.

3. Top Shell Vibration
Excessive vibration at the spider cap usually means the clearance between the shaft sleeve and spider bushing has become excessive (>1.5mm), allowing the shaft to slap.

Installation Expert Tip

[Pro-Tip] Installing the Spider Bushing in a CH430 requires precision. Use the Cryogenic Method (Dry Ice) to shrink the bushing. Do not hammer it in. More importantly, ensure the Main Shaft Sleeve is inspected. Never install a new spider bushing on a worn or grooved shaft sleeve; it will destroy the new bushing in less than 200 hours. Always replace the dust seal at the same time.
