Description
Cone Crusher Pinion Shaft: Precision Forged Drive Components
The Cone Crusher Pinion Shaft (Countershaft) is the critical link between your drive motor and the crusher’s internal gearing. It transmits high torque at speeds up to 1200 RPM, driving the eccentric assembly to crush rock. Unlike static Wear parts, this is a dynamic power transmission component requiring extreme dimensional precision to ensure perfect mesh with the Crown Gear (Ring Gear).
As specialized crusher part suppliers, we manufacture these shafts using heavy-duty forged alloy steel, ensuring they can withstand the torsional shock loads typical in mining applications.
Technical Specifications & Metallurgy
We adhere to strict AGMA and DIN standards for gear manufacturing. The following specifications apply to our universal pinion shaft range.
| Parameter Category | Specification Details |
|---|---|
| Shaft Material | Forged 18CrNiMo7-6 (EN 1.6587) or 42CrMo4 (EN 1.7225) |
| Heat Treatment | Carburizing & Quenching (Case Hardening) |
| Gear Tooth Hardness | 58 – 62 HRC (Case Depth 1.5 – 2.0mm) |
| Core Toughness | 30 – 35 HRC (High Shock Absorption) |
| Gear Precision | DIN 3962 Grade 6 / AGMA 10 |
| Shaft Machining | Bearing Journals Ground to ISO k6 / m6 |
| Dynamic Balance | G6.3 per ISO 1940 (Vibration Free at 1500 RPM) |
| Surface Finish | Ra 0.8 μm (Journals) / Ground Tooth Profile |
Performance Engineering: The Mesh Matters
Why choose our Pinion Shafts?
Spiral Bevel Geometry: Our pinions utilize Gleason spiral bevel gear technology. This ensures a larger contact patch (40-50%) compared to straight bevel gears, resulting in smoother power transmission and reduced noise.
Fatigue Resistance: We use 18CrNiMo7-6 steel, which is superior to standard 42CrMo for gears. The carburizing process creates a compressive stress layer on the tooth surface, increasing fatigue life by 50% under heavy cyclic loads.
Field Diagnosis: The “Whine” Warning
Listen to your crusher. It talks.
The Symptom: A high-pitched “whine” or howling noise from the drive end.
The Meaning: This usually indicates improper backlash (gear clearance).
The Check:
- Too Tight: Shafts are forced together, causing overheating and root wear.
- Too Loose: Results in “clunking” and tip wear.
- Misalignment: If the wear pattern on the pinion teeth is concentrated on the “heel” or “toe” rather than the center, your countershaft box shims need adjustment.
Supply Chain & Installation
We supply Pinion Shafts for major models including:
- Metso HP200 – HP500, GP Series
- Sandvik CH430 – CH660
- Symons 3ft – 7ft
Each shaft is shipped with a rust-preventative coating and protective lagging on the gear teeth. We recommend replacing the Pinion Shaft Bearings and Oil Seals whenever a new shaft is installed.
Expert Engineer’s Note: Backlash Adjustment
Critical Tip: Installing a pinion shaft is not “plug and play.” You MUST measure and adjust the backlash using dial indicators. For a typical 4ft cone, backlash should be 0.4-0.6mm. Run a “blueing check” (contact pattern test) before closing the housing. A poor contact pattern will strip the gear teeth in under 500 hours.
“Authoritative Engineering Data: All critical metallurgical specifications and dimensional tolerances (e.g., ±0.05mm) are strictly governed by the master English documentation. While localized versions are provided for operational reference, the English original remains the sole binding authority for quality inspection and technical compliance.”
